Saturday morning I arose bright and early to get my shopping done.
My first stop was Aldi, both because of the close proximity to my house and becasue I was planning on getting a handful of things from there. I usually only shop at Aldi for things like eggs, milk, butter, and sometimes produce, so I really didn't have high hopes. But Aldi delivered more than it ever has before. With over half of my list crossed off, I left Aldi cheerful and ready to go to Walmart.
Walmart wasn't AS productive, but that's mainly because I get lost in the hugeness of Walmart. Love the prices. Hate the size. I marked off just about everything else that can be bought ahead of time.
Last night I ran up to Publix for a last round to buy flowers for our table, an apple pie, ice cream, and things for dinner tonight.
Speaking of dinner tonight, I'm making my chicken pot pie and I'm pretty excited about a warm, homemade meal on such a cold day like today. After dinner, I'll go back to Publix for my LAST item...which is this:
Yes, I did it. I pre-ordered our turkey. I'm still making quite a few dishes from scratch, so I figured it would be okay to cheat on the turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes if it will save me from having anxiety about the big day...and save me anxiety it does.
In September, we signed up through UAB to become "Friendship Partners" with an international student. Our friend is from India, and we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him. This past Sunday, we joined together with our small group and invited all of our international friends to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner with us. We ate, played games, and made new friends. It was a blast and I was just continually reminded all night long that I have so much to be thankful for.
Stay tuned to find out how my Thanksgiving Dinner turns out...but if you want to see my progress along the way (I won't be blogging tomorrow), follow me on Instagram by clicking the button to the right!
And here are the recipes I'm using:
Strawberry Jell-O Pretzel Dessert
My mom's corn casserole:
2 Cans creamed corn
1 Jiffy mix
1 Stick Margarine
1 C. Cheddar Cheese
4 eggs
Salt/Pepper
Mix all together and cook at 350 for about 45 minutes, until the top is light brown.
Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving!!!
