Happy 7th Birthday to my best little buddy. 🎉
When I look back over the last year, I’m always amazed at how fast it goes. I used to roll my eyes at “the days are long but the years are short,” because when my kids were little, every day felt endless. Now I wish the days were longer, the years moved slower, and I could hold onto each season just a little more.
Grady hasn’t changed a ton since turning 6… except that he’s even more all-in on the things he loves. Baseball chief among them. Recently he very seriously informed me, “Mom, I want you to know I might not go to Samford.” I told him that was okay. He nodded and said, “Yeah… because I’m probably getting drafted out of high school and playing for the Braves.” Case closed.
He is the most determined child I’ve ever met. Sometimes to his (and my) detriment. He decided he wanted to be in better shape for baseball, so now he does 100 sit-ups before bed every night. No one asked him to. He just commits and goes all in. He fights hard for what he loves, and I’m grateful to be counted among those people.
One of my favorite surprises this year has been watching his faith show up in unexpected ways. Grady loves Brandon Lake. His Alexa is hooked up to my Apple Music, and apparently his favorite song has been played over 560 times since June. Seeing his little heart soak in worship and truth through music is something I never want to take for granted.
On our trip to DC this fall, he asked me if I thought he’d be a good dad someday. It stopped me in my tracks. What kind of 6-year-old thinks about that? But that’s Grady. He feels deeply. He thinks deeply. He cares deeply.
He is loyal. He is competitive. He is gentle. He is kind. He loves big, loud, and without hesitation. He’s our Grady-man, and I’m so proud to be his mom. 💙
