One of the greatest joys of 2020 is a habit I picked up out of necessity. I’ve heard you should wake up for your kids, not from your kids, but admittedly, for the first three years of being a mom I woke up to my kids crying as I aimed to get as much sleep as possible.
There’s nothing wrong with sleep, or waking up to your kids if you wake up happy. But I was waking up grumpy and frustrated. So, in January I began aiming to get up an hour before my kids. In this hour I drink my coffee, read my Bible, and listen to The Bible Recap. Now, when my kids wake up, I’m ready for them. I’ve been filled with the Word (and coffee) and I’m prepared to pour out.
Is it easy to get up? No. Do I do this perfectly? Also no. Do I always greet my kids lovingly and ready to parent? No. But, for the most part, I’m not frustrated at my kids for waking up, so to me that’s a huge win.
For my birthday, my parents and Jason went in together and bought me some new porch furniture so that while we have this beautiful weather, I can spend my morning hour outside. My chairs came yesterday and this morning I had the most rejuvenating morning reading about Jesus’ birth!
